Bhojpuri Opera ‘Pyar Ke Bandhan’
‘Pyar Ke Bandhan’ (Knot of Love) is a Bhojpuri opera edited and composed by Dev Anjan from various Bhojpuri Songs (of films and albums). The opera also has been acted out number of times in school programs and cultural events in Nepal.
It is about a couple who accidentally fall in love for lifetime. According to the plot, a city-girl becomes the center of attraction among her friends and others during her visit to a village. A job holder boy comes and flirts to her. Following an approval from the girl’s side, their knot is tied but the father of the girl remains a barrier of their love. Finally, he also accepts their relationship and resulting a happy ending.
Nepali Progressive Opera ‘Saheed’
‘Saheed’ (Martyr in English) is a Nepali opera edited and composed by Dev Anjan from various songs of the Raktim Pariwar, a protest music group and Jeevan Sharma, a prominent progressive singer of Nepal. The opera has been acted out number of times in School shows and cultural events in Nepal. It is about a poor, landless, homeless and alone farmer who joins a revolutionary armed movement as a guerrilla but dies during a raid. According to the plot, he follows the footsteps of other revolutionaries and fights against the repressing system. Because of his bravery, he always fights at the front line. Once, accidentally he is hit by an enemy bullet and dies. Finally a communist funeral is organized and his comrades take an oath of fulfilling his dream.
English Opera ‘The Power of Love’
‘The Power of Love’ is an English Opera of Hindi flavor, edited and composed by Dev Anjan from various Nepalese and Hindi movies (especially ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’). It is about a lovely relation of a boy and a girl buddies hurdled by various factors including villains. According to the plot, a girl, busy in her make-up is asked to get hurry for a trip by her friend. The trip brings them closer causing them to realize that they love each-other. But the blissful moment won’t last long because of the presence of some villains. The pair is attacked physically and kept detention. Finally the couple succeeds to get free, defeating the villains in a tricky war and unites.
Nepali Feminist Opera ‘Utha Beli Bhameli’
‘Utha Beli Chameli ‘ (Get up the Womankind, in English) is a Nepali progressive feminist opera edited and composed by Dev Anjan from various songs off the Raktim Pariwar, a protest music group of Nepal. It is about a married lady who is limited to her household despite her will and wishes. She works whole day and night but her unproductive tasks don’t make any direct earning in the eyes of her husband. On the next hand, her husband is a drunk and often tortures her physically and emotionally. At first she seems helpless to all these but later she is persuaded for change by her aware neighbors. She then fights back for her rights and also for equal status in the family.
Child Opera ‘Ma Pani School Janchhu’
‘Ma Pani School Janchhu’ (I’ll also go to school, in English) is a Nepalese Child Opera edited and composed by Dev Anjan from progressive Nepali child songs by Raktim Pariwar and Bal Kusum. It is about a girl child’s struggle to get school education despite her family’s poverty. According to the plot, a small girl child is forced to stay at home taking care of her small brother and sister during the day time when their mother is working in the field of their landlord. At night, the mother returns back home to feed her family. The girl child purpose to join a school but her mother isn’t able to bear the academic fees. Finally, the mother brings out some saved money and sends her to school with her small son. The girl is happy now and much enthusiastic in learning.
